I read this book right after reading Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. I have published a book review of Rich Dad Poor Dad on this website. Rich Dad Poor Dad, aroused my interest in the concept of how money works. ‘The Richest Man in Babylon by George Clason’ took it one step further. This book was originally published almost a century ago, but the concepts about money mentioned here, are timeless. They are valid today and will be valid as long as money exists.
When I come to think of it, ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’, gave theory lessons, while ‘The Richest Man in Babylon’ gave practical examples. These books complement each other so well, that I recommend you read them consecutively and in that order. They beautifully strengthen the principles about ‘how money works’ and ‘how to make money work for you.
Talking about ‘The Richest Man in Babylon’, it is a series of parables or short stories, all independent of each other and you can literally pick up the book and start reading any parable, and you will still enjoy it. All the stories are based in ancient Babylon, when it was the richest and the most prosperous city. That is about the only common thread between all parables. The book uses Shakespearean English, which you take a couple of minutes to get used to, but start enjoying it soon after.
Key Takeaways:
Although I am mentioning some key takeaways here, as I highly recommend everyone to read it. It is for everyone irrespective of your demographics or your financial stability. If you are financially sound, this book will help you reassess your position. If you are in tatters, this book will show you new light. The book will teach you tactics, so I will not mention them here. But one important thing we should all ingrain is – The amount of time required to change a situation, is directly proportional to the amount of time you have been in the situation. So there is no overnight change of fortunes.
